FINE ART
Flowers are perhaps one of the easiest subjects with which to begin watercolor painting. Using Watercolor Basics: Painting Flowers (NorthLight Books) as the text, delve into the joy of painting flowers. Sharon Hinckley brings years of experience and careful study to her work and is happy to share her secrets with you. Topics include choice of subject matter, arrangement, mixing juicy color and, the ever challenging, how to make fresh greens. This workshop is suitable for all levels of students. This is the real deal. Explore the best ways to create imagery for relief printmaking and execute them in class starting with a practice piece of linoleum. The techniques you learn in practice will then be put to the test when you cut your own final linoleum plate. During the second meeting, the focus will be on pulling prints on a professional quality printing press. Learn how to make hand-rubbed prints that can be produced in your studio without a press. Forget the brush and let’s slap some paint on a canvas. A palette knife can be used for much more than mixing paint. Recreate an image, impasto style, as you learn the basics of palette knife painting with acrylic paint. Explore the simplicity of laying blocks of solid color and building the details using bold strokes. This is a very fun and expressive painting style. Please bring an image that you would like to recreate. Ideal for beginners as well as advanced painting students. Immortalize your pet or favorite animal in your own creative style. Lay out the basic animal’s shapes and build with shadows and highlights to render a beautiful and unique painting. This workshop is ideal for beginners and will introduce the structural basics of animal portraiture. Please bring an image of your favorite animal or pet that you would like to recreate. If you are painting a pet portrait, please bring 3 - 4 images of your pet to capture its personality and unique markings. One of the goals of this workshop is to produce a successful painting using oil paint. You will explore the art of seeing, understand harmony and balance, and will be encouraged to be free to experiment and enjoy the process. Learn the basics of the medium and its safe usage. See how the color of an object is influenced by light and shadow. Paint from a still life (an arrangement of vases, bowls of fruit, bottles etc) in the studio and weather permitting, outdoors. LOOSEN UP TO ABSTRACT PAINTING
Learn to use the basic principles of abstraction and combine them into your own style of painting. Through several fun painting exercises, the main elements of design will be emphasized. ART WEEK RETREAT aka Summer Camp for Adults
Explore the possibilities in this five day retreat as you learn and play with art. Dive right in and immerse yourself, experiment and let your creativity surface with Basic Drawing, Introduction to Watercolor and Acrylic Painting. Attend all eight sessions (morning and afternoons) to learn three different media, or pick just one. Watercolor in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, followed by Acrylic Painting in the afternoon on the same days. PAINTIN' PARTY
Eat, Drink, Be Merry and Paint! An enjoyable night out with your friends! It’s all about having fun, being out, eating, drinking and making a painting, too. No special talent or experience required; only a willingness to have a good time. Paint along as Nancy Isbell takes you step-by-step to create your masterpiece on a 16″ x 20″ canvas. Your inner creativity is opened up and takes over. You may have never have picked up a paint brush or you may have years of painting experience. It doesn’t matter! One more great thing about this evening is that it’s an in-the-moment, living-in-the-now experience, not a competition. You just might get hooked on painting!
