HELENE C GOODMAN’S love of stitchery began when she was 12 years old and her Grandma Tillie taught her a few embroidery stitches. Helene loved it from the start and began to hunt for pillow cases with stamped designs on them. For many years, she practiced the stitches she knew on these stamped designs until she discovered Erica Wilson (the Julia Child of embroidery), who had a television show on PBS where she taught TV students about embroidery and how to adapt the stitches to a design. After buying Erica Wilson's "Embroidery Book", Helene learned so many more stitches and never looked back. She created her own embroidery designs and become more adventurous with colors and materials, and created embroidered wall hangings with found objects attached. Helene has exhibited her embroidered wall hangings and silk paintings. She has taught embroidery and art to both adults and children since 1995 at Temple Emanuel and at Beverly’s Crafts and Fabrics in San Diego.
